MCA in venture to bolster economic contribution
KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA has formed a committee with Chinese guilds and associations, including the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, to discuss economic issues related to the Chinese.
MCA vice-president Datuk Donald Lim said one of the issues for the committee to work on would be finding ways to increase the contribution of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to the national economy.
It is estimated that SMEs contribute about 32% to the national economy and we want to find ways to increase that to 50% by 2020. Many of these SMEs are actually Chinese-based companies.
In developed countries like Germany, France, Japan and South Korea, SMEs contribute 50% to their respective national economy, said Lim during a press conference at Wisma MCA yesterday
It is estimated that there are about 600,000 registered companies in Malaysia and the majority of them are SMEs.
Lim also said he hoped Petaling Jaya residents would support Barisan Nasional candidates Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun (Petaling Jaya Utara parliamentary seat), Victor Gu (Damansara Utama state seat) and Sheah Kok Fah (Kampung Tunku state seat) and him in the Petaling Jaya Selatan parliamentary seat.
By supporting the MCA, this will enable the party to consolidate the political strength of the Chinese. The Barisan has 50 years of experience to rule a country while the opposition has none.
