Terengganu to review all massive projects
KEMAMAN: All mega projects in Terengganu, including those proposed by the Federal Government, will be re-evaluated by the state government.
Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said this was decided after two mega projects – the soon-to-be completed expansion of the Sultan Mahmud airport and the deepening of the Sungai Terengganu estuary – which cost over a billion ringgit, were found to have not benefited the people.
It is learnt that the airport tender was not awarded to a local bidder.
“We are not in any way opposing any mega project but the point is this - will the projects benefit Terengganu folk?” he said after meeting heads of Federal and state government departments here yesterday.
Ahmad said he would re-evaluate mega project from the aspect of economies of scale and the spillover effect.
On the quantum of petroleum royalty that the state government received from the Federal Government, Ahmad said even he did not know how much.
