256 Sandakan employers yet to register with Socso
SANDAKAN: Legal action will be taken against 256 employers here who have yet to register with the Social Security Organisation (Socso).
Sandakan Socso manager Clarice Claire Geoffrey said they could be charged under the Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) and Employees Social Security (General) Regulations 1971 for failing to register with the organisation.
“If convicted, they can be jailed for up to two years or fined up to RM10,000 or both for a first offence.”
She said that 7,293 of 4,906 employers registered with the Sandakan Socso were active and 59,939 employees were covered by Socso.
So far this year, 15 employers were charged for various offences under the Act, she added. – Bernama
