Downpour causes flood in Kinrara at Jalan Puchong
By LIM CHIA YING
The downpour on Wednesday evening resulted in another round of flood at the Kinrara Business Centre Section 3 in Jalan Puchong where the water reportedly rose to more than two feet.
The rain that started at about 4.30pm and lasted for almost an hour led to the flooding of the business centre and cars being stalled in Jalan Puchong.
Kinrara assemblyman Teresa Kok’s office and service centre was not spared either.
Kok’s special assistant Gary Chong said the centre received many calls from residents as well as motorists who could not move their cars due to the rising water.
“We notified the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and president Datuk Adnan Md Ikhsan turned up with his men,” said Chong.

“However, we were rather disappointed when the council told us that they didn't have enough water pumps to pump out the water. They had only brought with them one small pump, but we couldn’t do much with that,” said Chong.
He said that eventhough the water level subsided by night time, many people and motorists were affected by the incident.
“The business centre is built on a lower ground, during downpours, water gushes down to the business centre from older neighbourhoods of Taman Bukit Kuchai and Pak Siong Industrial Park, which sit on a higher ground level.
“Something needs to be done about the drainage system. However, we were told that the main road of Jalan Puchong belongs to the Public Works Department (JKR) and not the council’s,” he said.
Kok said that she has had a discussion with the MPSJ officers and would be bringing up the issue at the council's upcoming district meeting.
“Since Jalan Puchong is a JKR road, then we believe the Federal government should come up with a solution as soon as possible.
“I want to push for this issue to be resolved soon,” she said.

Better drainage system needed: MPSJ has come up with two solutions for the flood problems in Puchong. |
Adnan said that the council have come up with two solutions to help alleviate the flood situation.
“The first is that we will widen the existing drains for easier flow of water. We did construct a new drain last year, however we realised that it's not sufficient to sustain the volume of water.
“Secondly, we will raise the side walls of the drain in the inner road by about one and a half feet,” said Adnan.
On the main road of Jalan Puchong, he said JKR had been informed of the situation and believed that they would come up with their own solutions.
On the issue of the water pump , Adnan said the council would definitely be investing in more pumps. “Usually we would use pumps installed by the developers, unfortunately, the pumps at the business centre were not working.
“We are planning for a meeting soon to see what can be done,” said Adnan.
