Girl run over by lorry after falling off m-cycle
TAPAH: An eight-year-old girl was killed when a lorry rammed into her after she fell on the road while riding pillion on a motorcycle with her mother.
OCPD Superintendent Roslan Bek Ahmad said Rubiah Bebe, 31, had picked up her daughter Nor Farahain Masturi after school on her motorcycle when the incident occurred around noon, at the Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur trunk road in front of SM Sheikh Abdul Ghani.
Rubiah was trying to overtake a car but failed because there was an oncoming lorry, he told reporters at a press conference here yesterday.
She tried to avoid the lorry, causing her daughter to fall from the machine, he said.
Nor Farahain landed on the road and the lorry hit the SK Bidor schoolgirl, he said.
On an unrelated matter, Supt Roslan Bek said police arrested 22 illegal immigrants, comprising 14 men, four women and four babies, believed to be attending a gathering at an oil palm estate at the fourth kilometre of the Jalan Bidor-Teluk Intan trunk road on Thursday at 10pm.
A total of 66 motorcycles were seized, of which 14 were found to be stolen, he said.
Those with information about the gathering can call 05-4011 222 or SMS Rakan Cop at 32728.
