Dewan Rakyat: MPs challenge household monthly income report

KUALA LUMPUR: Both DAP and Barisan Nasional MPs seemed to speak in unison in voicing complaints that the methods used by the Prime Minister's Department in reporting the country's household monthly income were inaccurate.

Speaking in Dewan Rakyat on Monday, Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) said people complained to him that they received lower household income rates than the ones stated by the Government.

Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh (BN-Kalabakan) also agreed and cited that the high level of poverty in Sabah didn't reflect the true income levels for the country.

In reply, deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department S.K. Devamany said the Government used internationally-accepted standards in its survey, adding that different approaches were used to detect the hardcore poor in the country.

Phase two of LCCT
Construction of the second phase of the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal at the KL International Airport will be negotiated through open tender.

Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said the first phase of the LCCT, which cost around RM108mil, was constructed through direct negotiations because it was a fast-track project.

"The second phase is expected to cost RM123mil. The Government has a long-term plan to construct a new LCCT at a different site in KLIA.

"When this is completed, the existing LLCT will be converted into a cargo complex," he told Wee Choo Keong (PKR - Wangsa Maju).

Bandar Mahkota Cheras issue
The Federal Government has to wait for the court to decide on a lawsuit filed by developer Narajaya Sdn Bhd against Cheras-Kajang Highway concessionaire Grand Saga in 2007 before negotiations could resume.

Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said as yet no action could be taken by the Federal Government for fear of subjudice.

"The Government has held a series of meetings between Bandar Mahkota Cheras residents and the concessionaire to resolve the matter over the access road.

"The terms of the agreement signed between the Federal Government and the concessionaire that any leakage and loss in traffic volume from the toll highway will have to be borne by us," he told Tan Kok Wai (DAP - Cheras).

New taxi
The country's taxis may no longer be sourced from known models but they would be based on a new design.

Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Noh Omar said the ministry would meet Proton to discuss the design of a new type of taxi.

"All taxis will be based on this exclusive model, and not sourced from many types of cars," he told Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi (BN-Batu Pahat).

Dr Mohd Puad said the present taxi models such as the Proton Saga were not big or comfortable enough.
