Cops looking for accomplice of taxi driver who stabbed woman
KUALA LUMPUR: The “taxi driver” who stabbed a woman several times and left her to die in Kajang on Friday probably had an accomplice - and police are on the hunt for the man.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Shakaruddin Che Mood said the taxi driver had admitted during questioning that there was a second person who assisted him in the robbery. .
He said police were investigating if the man in his 30s from Kuala Kangsar had previous convictions.
A source revealed that the police believed the suspect did not have a valid taxi driver's licence and they were tracing the owner of the taxi. Police wanted to know if the owner was connected to the crime.
A police check with the Road Transport Department's online system revealed that the taxi's number plate was bogus.
ACP Shakaruddin said the suspect was being held at the Kajang police station and would be remanded until later today to assist in investigations.
He added that police have yet to get a statement from the 33-year-old victim. Lee Hui Fun is still in the intensive care unit of University Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital.
On Friday, policemen on patrol duty at 9.40am found Lee, unconscious in Jalan Maktab with four stab wounds in her back.
At 4pm, the suspect was involved in an accident with a motorcycle in Jalan Ipoh and passers-by, including The Star photographer, nabbed the suspect after noticing a blood-stained handbag and credit cards in the front passenger seat of the taxi.
The suspect had shouted “saya bunuh satu orang sahaja” (I killed only one person) after being beaten up and questioned by the crowd. He was subsequently handed over to the police.
