AFTER an attack of foot and mouth disease, buffalo breeders in Terengganu are now baffled by another sudden mysterious disease which left almost 50 buffalos dead over the last three days, Kosmo! reported.

More than 100 breeders in four villages – Lubok Gong, Danga, Kedak and Tasik Tandak – were bewildered when the buffalos they released into their fields all died suddenly.

Breeder Wan Azman Wan Yaacob, 36, said he lost 10 buffalos.

On Saturday alone, he said three of his buffalos had gone down at the same time after they were let loose in his fields near his home.

“They had swollen heads, and had trouble breathing before they collapsed.

“They died about four hours later. What I am sure of is that they did not die from the foot and mouth disease,” he said, adding that cows were also suffering the same fate.

He also said more than 500 buffalos and 1,000 cows would die if the authorities do not intervene immediately.

Kelantan Veterinary Services Department director Datuk Dr Mohd Zairi Serlan explained that early examinations showed that the animals could have been suffering from a bleeding epidemic, and the disease had spread through water and contact.

There is a possibility that the disease can spread to humans if the meat of these animals is consumed.

Man killed for trying to stop daughter from having a relationship

Metro Ahad reported that a hawker had paid with his life for stopping his 14-year-old daughter from having a relationship with another teenager.

He was brutally slashed to death at his stall in the Small and Medium Industry area in Alor Gajah on Friday morning. The motive for the murder was believed to be due to him stopping his daughter from having a relationship with a 19-year-old car wash attendant.
