Adnan keeps them guessing
KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob is keeping people guessing as to which post he will contest in the Umno elections.
There has been talk that divisions in Pahang would nominate him for the Youth chief post.
When met at the Umno 62nd anniversary celebrations yesterday, Adnan said he had already made it clear that he would not be vying for a seat in Umno’s supreme council.
“But that does not include the Umno Youth chief and vice president,” he said.
Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishamm-uddin Hussein has said he would not seek re-election for the post.
Pressed further, Adnan said he had “no intention” to contest for Umno Youth’s top post. “Let (Umno Youth deputy chief) Khairy (Jamaluddin) and (Datuk) Mukhriz (Mahathir) sort it out among themselves.”
Nevertheless, he cannot be ruled out of the race for the post.
“My policy is very simple. You don’t go for the post. But if people push you (to go for it), that’s different. You can interpret that in many ways,” he added.
In the last party election, Adnan contested for the Umno vice-presidency and lost.
