Mother’s Day tragedy for family as mum killed
JITRA: Che Bashah Che Ahmad was to have celebrated Mother’s Day on Sunday with her five children. Instead, she was found dead with stab wounds at her house in Taman Berlian here at 3pm, five hours before the scheduled family dinner.
Che Bashah’s body was found by her son Mat Ariff Abu Bakar, 40, who came to check on her after seeing the front grille ajar. She usually kept it locked.
“I was driving home to my house in Taman Bersatu when I drove past my mother’s house and saw the front grille open. I stopped and went inside and saw my mother lying on the sofa,” he said.
Probe on: Police investigating the scene of crime Sunday as relatives, including Mat Ariff (third from right) watch. Thinking that his mother might be asleep, Mat Ariff kissed Che Bashah’s forehead but realised she was motionless and cold. He turned her over and saw her blouse soaked in blood. A knife was found next to her body.
Mat Ariff said he bought the house for Che Bashah, who had stayed there on weekends since October last year.
“We were supposed to have a family dinner at my sister’s house in Padang Perahu,” said Mat Ariff when met at the scene on Sunday.
Kedah CID chief Assistant Comm Zakaria Ahmad said the victim had been strangled and stabbed.
“The assailant had taken the jewellery she was wearing and some cash from her bag,” he said.
He added that Che Bashah might have known her attacker as there were no signs of a forced entry.
