Dewan Rakyat: Petronas to build 200 natural gas stations
By ELIZABETH LOOI and ZULKIFLI ABD RAHMAN
KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has ordered Petronas to build 200 stations that provide for Natural Gas for Vehicles (NGS) by the end of this year.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said however, Petronas currently has 73 existing NGV stations and two more stations would be ready by the end of the month.
"Another 25 stations are expected to be completed by the end of the year and the balance 100 stations would be ready next year.
"The infrastructure is to cater to about 10,700 vehicles that use NGV," he said in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.
ACA under Parliament’s jurisdiction
A "dangerous" precedent will be set if the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) or the proposed Malaysian Commission on Anti-Corruption (MCAC) is placed directly under the jurisdiction of Parliament.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said the ACA should not be allowed to prosecute to prevent a conflict of interest and bias in its cases.
He was replying to a supplementary question by Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timur), who said that the Prime Minister had committed an abuse of power by ordering the Attorney-General to expedite investigations into the case of Karpal Singh’s (DAP-Bt Gelugor) alleged insult of the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers.
"It's dangerous to put the ACA or the MCAC directly under Parliament as you suggested, since you, in your former post as Opposition Leader, had once questioned the rights of the ACA to investigate a Member of Parliament," Nazri added.
Oil and gas import
Malaysia is expected to become a net energy importer of oil and gas by 2014, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Amirsham A. Aziz said.
Based on the current oil extraction methods, he added, the crude oil and oil condensates were expected to last for 22 years, while gas reserves would last 39 years.
Amirsham also said the royalty payments to the states amounted to 10% of the production sharing capacity amount.
He added the total oil royalty payments paid to the Federal Government and some states from the financial year 2004 to 2007 was RM26.83bil.
The royalty payments to the Federal Government was RM13.4bil to Terengganu (RM7.3bil), Sabah (RM1.2bil) and Sarawak (RM4.8bil), he said.
Local maids
The Human Resources Ministry does not plan to train local house maids as Malaysians are not interested in becoming domestic helpers in general, said Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam.
He said the ministry would have to change the public's mindset on the perception of the job as well as the job scope.
He said if the Government plans to stop depending on foreign maids, it would also have to increase the salary scale.
