TM investing RM1.9bil in Iskandar Malaysia

JOHOR BARU: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is investing about RM1.9bil to provide broadband telecommunications infrastructure in Iskandar Malaysia.
Chief executive officer Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said the investment, would cover a 10-year period, and the implementation of high speed broadband would start by year-end.
The infrastructure will cater to some 718,000 commercial and residential premises, including Nusajaya, Central Business District, Western Gate Development, East Gate Development and Senai-Skudai corridors.
“The huge IT boost for Iskandar Malaysia will also boost the economic activities within the growth corridors,” he said at the signing yesterday of an MoU between TM and Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), which was represented by CEO Datuk Ikmal Hijjaz Hashim.
The event was witnessed by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.
At the event, MSC Cyberport Sdn Bhd also signed an MoU with IRDA to strengthen and promote the information and communication technology (ICT) and multimedia industry in Iskandar Malaysia.
MSC Cyberport CEO Ganesh Kumar Bangah said work on MSC Cybercity in Indahpura Kulai would start by year-end.
The project, on a 150-acre site, will be developed in three phases over a period of eight years at a total gross development value of RM1.15bil.
According to Ganesh, the targeted business clusters will be in the areas of shared services outsourcing, particularly in call centres, creative multimedia companies and software development organisations.
He said the company would be signing an MoU with an Indian-based developer next week to jointly develop Cybercity.
“This company, which specialises in developing special economic zones all over India, has a good track record with good ICT networking,” Ganesh said.
He pointed out that the partnership would enable MSC Cyberport to attract more Indian-based ICT companiesand also its international clients to Iskandar Malaysia.
Ganesh said MSC Cybercity would create 10,000 job opportunities within five years.
