Outstation school may be relocated to Damansara
THE Education Ministry may relocate a low-enrolment school in another state to the original site of SJKC Damansara, China Press reported yesterday.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong said the ministry had an initial plan for the matter but declined to elaborate.
Dr Wee, who had gone to visit the original site of the school earlier this month, said the structure of the school was still intact and just needed minor touch-ups.
SJKC Damansara was built in 1930 in Section 17, Petaling Jaya, the only Chinese primary school in the area and one of the oldest in the country.
The Education Ministry closed the school on Jan 2, 2001, on grounds that it no longer provided a “conducive learning environment” because of traffic congestion and noise pollution from the neighbouring Sprint Highway.
Subsequently, the new Damansara school was built in Tropicana, several kilometres away from the original premises.
Andy Lau keeps mum over relationship with Malaysian girlfriend
> Sin Chew Daily reported that Hong Kong heartthrob Andy Lau was still keeping mum on his relationship with Malaysian girlfriend, Carol Zhu Liqian.
Last Saturday, Lau attended the wedding dinner of Zhu's sister in Kuala Lumpur. Zhu was also at the dinner but it was reported that the couple avoided being seen together during the function.
When asked by the reporters in Hong Kong whether he attended the function as brother-in-law of the bride, Lau smiled and replied that it was a private matter.
