Sarawak assistant minister Unting still in coma
By JACK WONG
KUCHING: State Assistant Minister for Sports Datuk Dublin Unting, who collapsed after a radio interview at RTM Sarawak complex here on Thursday afternoon, is still in coma after undergoing brain surgery at the Normah Medical Specialist Centre.
The three-hour operation was successful, and Unting is in stable condition, said state Land Development Minister Datuk Dr James Masing.
''He has not regained consciousness and we have to see (observe his condition) for the next two days,'' added Dr Masing when asked Friday.
He said Unting, who was unwell of late, had suffered a massive stroke.
Dr Masing said it was fortunate that Unting was not visiting the rural area when the incident happened, otherwise the latter would not have been able to get immediate medical aid.
Unting, also vice-president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) led by Dr Masing, was interviewed on Thursday by the RTM Iban radio channel on the state's preparations for Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) in Trengganu, beginning late next week. He is the state Sukma chef de mission.
Unting was rushed immediately by an ambulance to the Normah Medical Specialist Centre after he fainted shortly after the interview.
