Dewan Rakyat: BN needs Opposition’s help to fight graft
By LEE YUK PENG
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional needs the co-operation of the Opposition to fight graft, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Aziz.
He said fighting graft was the top priority of Barisan’s 2004 manifesto but it was impossible to do it in a short time.
“What has been done so far clearly shows our battle against corruption. I hope you will give your co-operation. We need co-operation from the Opposition to fight graft,” he said in Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
Nazri was responding to a question by Lim Kit Siang (DAP - Ipoh Timur) on whether the Government has the political will and commitment to fight graft.
"But if Yang Berhormat says that there is no political will, I'm afraid your glasses may be too thick.
“How can you not see that what we have done today clearly shows our political will to fight graft. I hope Yang Berhormat, although no longer the Opposition Leader, will give your full cooperation to help us fight graft," he told Lim during question time.
Lim had said that there was lack of political will and commitment in the Government's fight agaisnt corruption as those involved in the 18 high profile cases highlighted in 2004 remained scot-free.
Judicial commission
The framework for the judicial appointment commission is expected to be tabled to Cabinet in three weeks, said de facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.
He added that reforms put in place are to clear the backlog cases in courts. The results are expected to show in six months, he said.
