RM6 minimal Syabas charge

SHAH ALAM: Consumers in Selangor might not be getting their water supply for free after all as they will still have to pay a RM6 minimal charge to Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas).

Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said consumers in Selangor would have to pay the minimum although the first 20cu m free water they used would be free.

“If the usage is less than 20 cu m or RM11.40, he (the consumer) does not have to pay the water charges but he has to pay a RM6 service charge,” Khalid told reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting here yesterday.

Khalid also said that the state government had finally received a reply from the Registrar of Societies stating that it had not yet dissolved the Wives of Selangor Assemblymen and MPs Welfare and Charity Organisation (Balkis).

He said the registrar finally replied to the state government’s queries on the status of Balkis last week.

“The welfare and charity activities (carried out by the organisation before this) will continue and the wives of assemblymen and MPs are still planning their own activities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment Committee chairman Elizabeth Wong said the state government was trying to recover the RM9mil fund from Balkis.

She said Balkis would now be housed in a new office on the 5th floor of the state secretariat building.

Khalid also said that the Selangor state government would announce the list of local councillors today.

“We have finalised the list and tomorrow (today) we will announce the details and break down of the councillors from different profession, non-governmental organisations and others,” he said.
