Find out where to fit belts on June 17
KUALA LUMPUR: Owners of locally produced cars not fitted with rear safety belts will know on June 17 where to get them installed.
Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said the announcement would follow the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between manufacturers, banks and insurance companies.
The total cost of the exercise and number of cars involved will also be revealed then.
Ong earlier launched the Traffic Heroes Club of UMW Toyota Sdn Bhd to create road awareness among children in primary schools.
Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh said private vehicles registered before Jan 1, 1995 were exempted from the rear seat belt ruling.
He said those registered on or after that date but without rear seat belts had three years to install them.
