Time for politicians to move on and serve

THE state of our politics can be summed up as small-minded. The simple purpose of politics is to form a government that runs a country efficiently. It should not be for self-preservation of a group or individuals.

Letters by GC Foo “Discard partisan politics and let the best serve society” (The Star, June 3) and Azrin Kamaluddin “Mokhzani has done a great job, so let him be” (The Star, June 4) and Marina Mahathir's column “Musings” (The Star, June 4) leave me to wonder how can our country progress in this borderless global mindset.

Looking at the reactions of a minister on the issue of the launching of the Japan GP recently has reduced my confidence of the current Federal Government.

An international circuit event brought to Malaysia by the government no less, was being rebuked by the minister because of the presence of a person who “...says bad thing about my prime minister.”

Partisan politics may well be good during the period of jostling for power. But once that is over, let's look at building this nation. Those that have become government must go beyond partisan politics when it comes to ensuring the prosperity of the country.

They are now servants of the people and should allow the best to take the country forward. The people want progress and do not care who the government of the day chooses to do it.

We need to move forward in this trying time of high oil prices and uncertain world economy. For this we need people with big heart and global mindset willing to get assistance from the best wherever they may be.
