Government must act to avert price hike
PETALING JAYA: The Government must take steps to prevent producers and suppliers from using the petrol price increase as an excuse to raise the prices of goods and services.
Social activist Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said that the petrol price hike would affect many industries and they would use the opportunity to increase the cost of materials and production.
He said that many people felt that the increase in fuel prices was too drastic and should have been carried out in stages.
People would need to change their lifestyles as they were going through harder times, he said.
The Federal and state governments should embark on a national austerity drive and lead by example, he added.
