ACA on right track in tackling graft
PUTRAJAYA: The arrest of several senior government officers suspected of corruption shows that the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) is right on track in its efforts to tackle graft at all levels.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said it demonstrated that the ACA was taking action without fear or favour even though those suspected of corruption held influential government positions.
“But I’ve also said to the ACA, do be careful and they must be sure (before making any arrest),” he added.
“Once an ACA officer walks into anyone’s office, it will be easy for people to make assumptions,” he told Bernama and Radio RTM in a special interview at Sri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence yesterday.
Abdullah was asked to comment on the recent arrest of Immigration department director-general Wahid Mohd Don and his deputy Yusof Abu Bakar as well as several other individuals for allegedly receiving bribes in the issuance of work permits to foreign workers.
A total of 20 people including middlemen, agents and runners have been arrested in connection with the case.
The prime minister is confident that at the rate ACA is going, more corruption cases will be uncovered.
