Anwar faces possible arrest
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has agreed to turn up at 2pm Wednesday to give his statement to the police, faces possible arrest if he fails to keep his word again.
It is learnt that the police have obtained a warrant for his arrest following his failure to present himself to city police investigators on Monday despite being served with a notice requesting him to do so under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).
Anwar was supposed to have met with CID director Commissioner Datuk Mohd Bakri Zinin at 2pm on Monday to have his statement recorded following a report lodged by his (Anwar's) former aide who alleged he was sodomised by Anwar.
Comm Bakri said Anwar leaves the police no other alternative if he once again fails to keep his "date" with the police who need to record his statement.
"We will take whatever legal action against him if he fails to show up and also against anyone who attempts to stop us from executing our duties.
"This case involves him and it is he who should present himself to the police to have his statement recorded and not the other way around,'' he told reporters Tuesday at a press conference at the city police headquarters here.
When asked why Anwar was not arrested after a report was lodged against him, Comm Bakri said police had to conduct a thorough investigation first before arresting anyone for questioning.
"We have to be professional when carrying out our duties. We do not arrest anyone just because there is a report lodged against him or her,'' he said, adding that police must be fair to both sides at all times.
