Maya: Go for green development
KUALA LUMPUR: If there should be development, make it sustainable. Thats the message Malaysias environment envoy Maya Karin has for the big companies.
I have observed that a lot of destruction was caused by corporations because they operate on a large scale, said the actress at the launch of Sustainability Management Scorecard (SMS), a software which does its bit for environmental conservation.
The launch, in conjunction with the 2008 SAS Forum Malaysia themed Intelligently Green, saw the participation of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Malaysia.
Maya urged corporations to redirect their operations towards sustainable development in generating profit without compromising the needs of future generations.

Corporations need to meet these changes by taking new approaches, this inevitably involves time, money or effort but they say, no pain, no gain, she added.
SMS is said to be the first decision-support software that helps organisations measure, manage and improve the impact of their operations on the environment.
WWF Malaysia marketing director Choon Bow Bow commended the moves of several responsible corporate citizens whose social contributions actually increased their profits.
SAS International Programmes senior director Thomas Spiller said the software received excellent response from customers in Europe and the United States.
