Anwar has no need to fear, says Syed Hamid
KOTA TINGGI: Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said it was not in his interest to keep on issuing statements on the allegation of sodomy against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim but it was his responsibility to ensure that the police could carry out their work fairly and effectively.
He said the PKR adviser should not be fearful of any of the statements because they were aimed at preventing confusion among the people.
"Whatever I say is to ensure fairness and does not constitute a personal attack. Anwar has no need to fear. We do not have the right to mete out justice, only the courts can do so," he said Saturday after launching a social programme in his Kota Tinggi parliamentary constituency, here.
Syed Hamid was asked to comment on the request by Anwar for a stop to his issuing statements on the sodomy allegation against him as it could undermine the police investigation.
The minister also advised the Bar Council to refrain from interfering in the police investigation.
Bar Council Vice-President K. Ragunath had asked the police to use the DNA sample taken from Anwar in 1998 during a sodomy allegation then after Anwar declined to allow a fresh DNA sample to be taken last Wednesday. - Bernama
