Respect PAS stand on muqabalah, Karpal told

GUA MUSANG: PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has called on DAP chairman Karpal Singh to respect PAS’ intention to hold a muqabalah (discussion) with Umno.

“Karpal Singh, like me, is old and we respect him, so he in turn must respect us,” he told reporters yesterday.

He was asked to comment on the DAP leader’s statement that PAS’ position in Pakatan Rakyat should be reviewed because he felt that talks between PAS and Umno could jeopardise unity within the coalition, which also includes PKR.

Nik Aziz said Karpal Singh should understand that a muqabalah was a face-to-face discussion between PAS and Umno due to his vast experience in politics and also to safeguard the joint interest of Pakatan Rakyat.

He also said that the muqabalah between PAS and Umno would not be explained to Karpal Singh because the matter had been discussed with DAP leaders before.

“I don’t want to comment. Moreover, I already closed the file on the matter between me and Karpal Singh two or three weeks ago,” he said. – Bernama
