Self-service system gets dealers’ thumbs-up
PETALING JAYA: Petrol dealers have welcomed the Government's move to implement self-service at all petrol stations from tomorrow.
The Petrol Dealers Association Malaysia urged consumers to cooperate to reduce dependency on foreign workers at petrol stations.
Consumers will now have to pay at the counter before filling up, the association's acting president Mejar (Rtd) Abd Majid Bidin said in a statement yesterday.
He said the move to reduce foreign workers was in line with the Government's efforts to eradicate social and economic problems associated with them.
However, he said petrol station attendants will be available to help the disabled, senior citizens and pregnant women fill up their petrol tanks.
He also said operators were allowed to provide a suitable space or work area for vehicle inspection and must ensure all equipment is available.
To enforce security, he said stations will enforce the no-smoking zone, switching off of engines, no use of handphones and other electronic equipment, as well as using approved containers to carry petrol.
He advised consumers to be patient whenever there were long queues at the payment counter.
