PI could be hiding in fear, says CID chief
By STEVEN DANIEL
PETALING JAYA: Police are looking at three likely possibilities for private investigator P. Balasubramaniam's dissapearance - he could be hiding out of fear, does not want to cooperate in investigations or has been forced' to go into hiding by certain parties.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Bakri Zinin who said this Sunday, said police were likely to seek the help of Interpol to search the PI who has not been seen since calling for a press conference on Friday to withdraw his first statutory declaration made a day earlier.
"We are currently investigating the three likely possibilities.
"If he is afraid to meet us on his own, he is welcome to bring along his lawyer during questioning," Comm Bakri said.
He reiterated that police had no idea where the PI was and appealed to anyone who knew his whereabouts to inform the police.
Balasubramaniam was one of the witnesses who had testified in the Altantuya murder case.
Barely 24 hours after making public the first statutory declaration on Thursday in which he alleged that police had omitted vital information in the Altantuya case, he made an about-turn and withdrew it entirely.
On Saturday, a nephew of Balasubramaniam lodged a police report claiming the private investigator , his wife and three children had been missing since Friday.
