Sidek: Govt won’t pay for sub-standard goods, services
PUTRAJAYA: The Government will not pay for goods or services that fail to meet requirements, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan said.
He said that like any other consumer the Government had the right to reject consignments that did not meet specifications or withhold payment for unsatisfactory services.
“We are striving to ensure our suppliers are paid accordingly and expeditiously, true to the Government’s call for an efficient public delivery system.
“But we cannot be paying for goods that are different from what we want or if they are not in good condition,” he told reporters yesterday after launching the guidebook on registering property by Pemudah.
Sidek was asked to comment on the delivery of sub-standard equipment worth RM100mil to the police logistics department.
The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) is investigating reports from the police that they had uncovered attempts by suppliers to cheat the force over the supply of goods.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said the ministry had asked for a detailed report on the “sub-standard” equipment allegedly purchased by the police amounting to RM98mil.
He said that if the report showed serious wrongdoing by any party amounting to corrupt practices then the matter would be reported to the ACA for investigation.
It was reported earlier that Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation executive council member Tan Sri Robert Phang had received a letter and documents from a whistleblower on July 23 alleging that six high-ranking officers from the police logistics department had committed malpractices when making purchases worth RM98mil earlier this year.
