PAS declares full backing for PKR leader
GEORGE TOWN: PAS will cooperate with its Pakatan Rakyat allies to ensure a victory in Permatang Pauh.
Party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang urged all members to give their full support to de facto PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for him to win the parliamentary constituency by-election on Aug 26.
“I have instructed the state PAS election machinery to work closely with other Pakatan parties,” he said at the Penang PAS convention at the Recsam training centre yesterday,
Depending on the need, he said, the by-election might also involve other party members and leaders outside Penang.
“We are coordinating the preparations with PKR as the party is heading the by-election machinery,” he said, adding that there were 35 PAS branches in the state.
Abdul Hadi brushed aside claims in a local daily that “all is not well” within the coalition in the state.
The report had claimed that PAS party members' dissatisfaction with the DAP-led state over “unfair distribution of power” could affect the outcome of the by-election.
