Customs Department gets RM158mil for projects
KOTA TINGGI: The Customs Department has been allocated more than RM158mil under the 9th Malaysia Plan for several projects in Johor.
Its director-general Datuk Seri Abd Rahman Abd Hamid said RM100mil and RM15mil would be for the construction of personnel quarters in Larkin and Tanjung Surat, respectively, and RM40mil for a marine customs complex in Sungai Pulai.
“The Sungai Pulai complex is being built, while the other projects are being planned,” he said.
Abd Rahman said the projects were to improve the efficiency of Customs personnel as well as motivate them.
He said this after the launch of the Tunku Mahkota Ibrahim Ismail Customs Marine complex in Tanjung Surat by Tunku Ibrahim Ismail Sultan Iskandar yesterday.
The new complex, Abd Rahman said, would have a staff of 60 and be equipped with boats capable of a speed of 70 knots.
“We hope to curb smuggling activities by increasing patrols in Tanjung Surat waters via this complex,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tunku Ibrahim hoped that the department would continue making raids and anti-smuggling operations in the Johor straits.
“The patrols must be ongoing and consistent.”
