Teen held for raping mentally disturbed woman
JOHOR BARU: A 16-year-old teenager was arrested for raping a 29-year-old mentally disturbed woman.
The incident is believed to have occurred at the suspect’s house at around 3am on Tuesday in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah.
It is learnt that the woman, who just had a disagreement with her mother, was making a call to her friend from a public phone when the suspect enticed her into his home.
The suspect, who had been queuing up behind her at the phone booth, allegedly molested and raped her in his bedroom before asking her to leave as he claimed his family members were about to return home.
The victim later revealed the matter to a friend who went to the suspect’s house and dragged him to the Skudai police station.
At a press conference organised by Gelang Patah MP Tan Ah Eng, the victim’s 50-year-old mother said that she hoped the police would investigate her daughter’s case thoroughly.
“My daughter was diagnosed with mild mental disturbances after she was involved in an accident two years ago,” she said.
She added that her daughter had not been on medication, as she believed it was bad for her daughter’s health.
Meanwhile, Tan said parents should not let their children out of the house at night, especially those with mental disorders.
“Parents of such children should give them proper medication and if they do not know how to deal with them, they should consult counselling centres,” she said.
When contacted, Johor Baru North deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Akhir Ishak said the suspect would be detained until Aug 25.
“The suspect is now being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape,” he said, adding that the hospital report confirmed the victim was raped.
