Don’t draw conclusions, says Health D-G
PETALING JAYA: The public should refrain from drawing conclusions or making misleading speculation from medical reports alone, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said.
Referring to the circulation of a flyer alleging that a person was not sodomised based entirely on physical examination findings from a medical record released in the Internet, Dr Ismail stressed that one could not be certain that sexual abuse had taken place simply based on such findings.
No lay person should make his or her own interpretation of what may have happened simply by looking at the medical records, without knowing the circumstances and other important information that only the examining medical practitioner may be privy to, he said in a statement.
Dr Ismail said that medical records or reports should not be circulated or be
published in the media in the first
place.
This is in direct breach of patient confidentiality and is liable to be used for reasons unacceptable to the medical profession.
