Beach party cancelled as it clashes with Selangor’s Merdeka ‘do’
PETALING JAYA: The Summer Sensation Merdeka Countdown Musical Party has been cancelled because it clashes with Selangor’s Merdeka celebrations.
Subang Jaya Municipal Council president Datuk Adnan Mohd Ikhsan said approval was not given because the two events clashed.
This was despite the fact that the bash – a beach party – was originally planned to be held at Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach while the state’s official celebration is scheduled to be held in Shah Alam. Both events are scheduled for Aug 30.
Summer Sensation organiser, DNKS Event and Entertainment Sdn Bhd, said the cancellation of the event was “due to unavoidable circumstances which occurred in conjunction with Merdeka Day”.
It said in a statement the move was taken “to prevent conflict which might be not appropriate to our local culture”.
A DKNS spokesman said the authorities were concerned that “there would be liquor involved during the party”.
“They are worried that things might turn violent, and so they advised us not to hold the event,” he said.
“We have already sold 4,000 tickets, but we accept all tickets for refunds,” he added.
Information on refunds can be obtained from all Ticket Axcess outlets or at www.axcess.com.my or call the hotline at 03-7711 5000.
