Photo record of a changing nation timely

PETALING JAYA: The Star's Changing Malaysia photography exhibition, jointly organised with Petronas, is timely and in line with the Government's aim to foster greater racial integration and unity.

Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal thanked The Star's effort in organising the exhibition.

He said more photo exhibitions should be encouraged as photographs could better illustrate Malaysia's progress in unity and integration to more people.

“This kind of exhibition should be held in more public places so that the public, especially children, can gain more knowledge of unity and what integration means,” he said yesterday after opening the show at 1 Utama shopping centre.

Shafie said the country did not encourage demonstrations and open debates that could jeopardise unity and stir negative feelings among the rakyat.

He also encouraged the photography industry to constantly upgrade their skills and document Malaysian life from all angles.

They should also publish their works in more media such as postcards and blogs, he said.

The exhibition will be on at the centre's Highstreet, Ground Floor (near Parkson), until Sept 7.
