Kudos to China for great show

THE recent Beijing Olympic Games was a great event. Fantastic opening, spectacular games, a nice closing ceremony, not to mention the extremely tight security measures. But thanks to it, unwanted terrorist activities did not happen.

But I guess certain parties from the West are not grateful but instead criticized it, saying it is too military to the extent of being “nightmare-like” and “intimidating”.

I read an article from the sport section of a local newspaper which mentioned that the Beijing Olympics was lacking the free-spirited mood of previous Olympics in countries such as Spain and Australia.

Well, considering the active terrorism around the world and with all the leaders concentrated in Beijing, do the Westerners really think that security can be lax?

They should be grateful for the tight security and the fact that all the world leaders got back home in one piece. It really gets my blood pressure up reading all this nonsense.

To me, it is just jealousy. If something happens, they would criticise the security and now that nothing happened, they criticise the security anyway.

So, whether or not anything happened, they would always find something bad to say.

China has been criticised ever since the country was chosen to host the Games. Whether China did it the right way or the wrong way, someone will have something to say.

First of all, the little girl who sang the song at the opening ceremony.

I am sure the parents of that little girl knew that their daughter will not be performing on stage. They allowed the girl's voice to be used and if it was not a problem for the parents, why would it be a problem for other people?

They did it for their country. Why can't other people respect that?

Secondly, about the fireworks. I seriously do not think it is an issue.

With all the talk about environmental conservation, I think it's a good idea because it saves money, less combustion and less smoke, good for the environment, so what is the problem?

When China spends money, they are wasting. When China wants to save money and the environment, they are not honest. Human beings are just real hard to please.

Since that is the case, I totally agree with China. Do what they think is right and what is good for the country because there is really no point in pleasing the whole world when they judge China with their own insignificant values.

Alor Star.
