‘Tsunami’ in the House
By ZULKIFLI ABD RAHMAN
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timur) seemed to be energised by the return of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Parliament when he was asking a supplementary question during question time on Thursday.
Lim stood up and congratulated him for returning to Parliament after an absence of 10 years.
"With the success of the second political tsunami in Permatang Pauh and the coming of the 'Titanic' next time ...," he said, while his voice was drowned out by Barisan Nasional backbenchers, who shouted at him not to waste time and told him to ask the relevant question.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, who was replying to Lim about the issue of illegal immigrants in Sabah, stood up and immediately doused Lim's good mood.
"I admit there are things such as tsunamis or Titanic in politics, and that's why your seat has been blown to that side," he added to laughter from the Barisan backbenchers.
Nazri was referring to Lim's former seat at the first seat of the Opposition bench, which was designated as the Opposition Leader's seat.
Lim is now sitting four places away from his original seat, which he had occupied before the March general election.
