ACA confirms reports on graft in Umno
PUTRAJAYA: The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) on Monday confirmed it had received several reports of corruption in Umno's branch and divisional elections.
ACA director-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan said the agency was investigating the reports.
"We have received reports ... but not many, just a few only. We are taking appropriate action," he told reporters Monday after the monthly gathering of the Prime Minister's Department here.
Ahmad Said said this when asked to comment on the ACA's arrest of a candidate for the Seremban Umno division head post, Mohd Nor Awang, on suspicion of giving money to a member to vote for him in a branch meeting.
He clarified that the definition of corruption was not based on the amount as long as it could influence a result.
Ahmad Said also said each complaint to the ACA must be accompanied by proof and facts.
"Give us facts and we will act," he said.
He said the agency received good cooperation from the public in its fight against corruption.
"You can see that we now receive correct and full information from the public and this is a new development ... we hope the support will continue for the welfare of the people," Ahmad Said said. - Bernama
