Actress Nur Fazura acquitted of causing hurt
KUALA LUMPUR: Award-winning actress Nur Fazura Sharifuddin described the magistrate’s court decision to acquit her of causing hurt to a woman with her high-heeled sandal in 2004 as the best birthday and Hari Raya Aidilfitri gift.
With tears welling in her eyes, Nur Fazura said she could now really celebrate her 25th birthday on Saturday and Hari Raya.

I want to start my life afresh,” said the Gol & Gincu actress after magistrate Aizatul Akmal Maharani handed down his decision yesterday.
Nur Fazura, from Damansara, was accused of causing hurt to Geraldine Mariana Wong, 33, the ex-wife of a former minister’s son, at Luna Bar, Pacific Regency Hotel and Apartments in Jalan Kia Peng here at 1.20am on Dec 19, 2004.
Aizatul Akmal said the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
“The accused in her defence testified that she was getting out of the pub when the complainant (Wong) approached her from the back and pulled her hair very hard,’ he said, adding that Nur Fazura testified that she was in pain and swung her sandal at Wong.
He said Nur Fazura’s evidence was supported with testimony by two defence witnesses €“ her former boyfriend Ahmad Razman Ahmad Razali and a friend.
The court had on Dec 7 last year ordered her to enter defence. Five prosecution witnesses testified against her.
Nur Fazura said people had been judging her after she was charged.
“It has not been easy for me in the last four years. I have lost a lot of jobs,” said Nur Fazura, winner of the Malaysian Film Festival’s Most Promising Actress award.
Asked on her plans now, she said she would start on a new movie Pisau Cukur on Oct 8.
“I will be playing one of the lead roles as a gold digger, together with Maya Karin,” she said with a laugh.
Earlier, Nur Fazura was hugged and kissed by her relatives and best friend TV personality Cheryl Samad and shook hands with well-wishers at the public gallery after the court verdict.
