18 road deaths on Sunday
KUALA LUMPUR: Eighteen people died on the fifth day of Ops Sikap XVII, pushing the death toll to 63 since the start of the operation.
Bukit Aman public relations officer Supt Rasdi Ramli said the victims on Sunday comprised 13 motorcyclists, two motorists, two cyclists and a pedestrian.
Urban roads had the highest number of accidents at 381, followed by federal roads (302), state roads (162), highways (77) and other roads (22), he said in a statement yesterday.
Supt Rasdi said 10,367 traffic summonses were issued on Sunday.
Ops Sikap XVII, which will go on till Oct 8, is intended to reduce road accidents during the Hari Raya period. — Bernama
