BN leaders slam Ahmad for arrogance
KOTA BARU: Barisan Nasional component parties hit out at Bukit Bendara Umno division head Datuk Ahmad Ismail for his arrogance and refusal to apologise over his “Chinese are immigrants” remarks.
Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said Ahmad’s refusal to apologise shows that he was against the policies of Umno and Barisan.
“We appreciate the statement and apology made by the Prime Minister and his deputy,” he said after opening the Kelantan Gerakan annual convention.
Kelantan MCA head Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen said the state MCA had written a letter to Abdullah, stating that they were angry with Ahmad’s remarks and wanted disciplinary action to be taken against him.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong said that the ball was now in Ahmad’s court and it was up to him to “salvage” the situation now.
“National interest is at stake. Unity is more important than anything else,” he said after opening De Gem’s latest jewellery outlet in Sutera Mall in Johor Baru.
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said Ahmad’s refusal to apologise had “repudiated” the earlier reply and apology from Najib (Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak).
