Slapped with 2 charges
KUALA LUMPUR: A deputy superintendent of police has been charged with two counts of accepting bribes totalling RM21,000.
Abdul Jalil Johari, 53, is alleged to have accepted the bribes as an inducement for him to help withdraw three charges under the Dangerous Drugs Act and the Poisons Act which were filed against a private college student.
The administrative officer at the Temerloh police headquarters claimed trial to both charges in the Session Court.
Construction manager Mohd Radzali Suratman, 45, also pleaded not guilty to abetting him.
On the first charge, Abdul Jalil was said to have agreed to accept RM6,000 from SPK Technology chief executive officer Rio Kamal Yuhya Sharifuddin as an inducement to withdraw the charges against his daughter, Rio Elani.
The offence was alleged to have been committed on the first floor, Gallery Lounge Hotel Dynasty, Jalan Ipoh, at about 11.30pm on April 1.
On the second charge, Abdul Jalil is alleged to have solicited RM15,000 from Rio Kamal Yuhya through a telephone conversation, also for the same purpose, at 9.30pm on March 21.
Judge Fathiyah Idris set bail at RM10,000 in one surety for both accused and fixed Oct 10 for re-mention of the case.
