Close ranks, Najib tells Penang BN

GEORGE TOWN: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has advised Barisan Nasional component parties in Penang to strengthen ties with one another to win back support from the people.
The Prime Minister also urged the parties to rally around the 1Malaysia concept to strive forward.
“Among the things that we have decided upon is for Penang Barisan to strive forward based on the spirit and principles of 1Malaysia, which we have found receives support and acceptance from the people.
“In the context of a multi-ethnic and multi-religious community, it is clear that cooperation and support as well as mutual understanding among races are crucial.
“This is important for Barisan’s efforts to regain our footing in Penang,” Najib, who is Barisan chairman, told reporters after meeting with Penang Barisan leaders here on Monday.
He said the leaders had pledged to improve cooperation between component parties to enable them to move forward as a single party complete with mutual understanding.
“If Barisan can move forward with a new spirit and tighter bonding with one another, we will be able to continue winning back support from the people,” Najib said.
Asked about tiffs between several of the state’s Barisan component parties over rumoured dissatisfaction on Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon’s leadership in Penang Barisan, Najib said the matter was an internal one.
“What is important is Barisan must work together as one party and one family,” he said.
Dr Koh, who was present at the meeting, said Barisan’s Penang arm would work closely with one another to organise strategies and steps to increase their service to the public.
