MCMC looks at plans for more rural Internet centres
KAPIT: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is looking into proposals to set up more rural Internet centres under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
Deputy Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang said at the moment there were 42 such centres nationwide.
“But as the country progresses, the people will enjoy better broadband facilities and Internet connectivity,” he told the media after launching the Song rural Internet centre at the district post office as well as launching the new national portal for such centre near here yesterday.
Salang added that the commission was also looking into setting up bigger and better community broadband centres, which numbered about 2,000 at the moment, including about 30 in the state.
On complaints about poor Radio Television Malaysia radio broadcast in the state’s rural areas, Salang said his ministry had applied for more funds to rectify the situation. — Bernama
