PORT DICKSON: Newly-elected Bagan Pinang assemblyman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad has set himself a target – to help Barisan Nasional recapture the Teluk Kemang parliamentary seat and three other state seats in the constituency.
The Teluk Kemang Umno division head, who got down to work Tuesday after winning Sunday’s by-election by meeting Umno branch leaders in the division, said this was important so that wholesome development could be brought to the resort town.
“Our win in Bagan Pinang clearly shows that the non-Malays and the young have returned to the Barisan fold. We now need to up the momentum to recapture the seats that we lost in 2008,” he told reporters after the meeting.
The Teluk Kemang parliamentary seat and Chuah and Port Dickson state seats went to PKR while the the DAP took Lukut. The other seat, Linggi, is held by the Barisan.
Mohd Isa said he would also meet all Teluk Kemang Barisan component party heads on Wednesday to formulate strategies.
“I also want to personally thank them for working tirelessly for me during the by-election. We need to start working from now if we are going to make an impact in the next general election,” he said.
In Sunday’s contest, Mohd Isa defeated PAS’ Zulkefly Mohamad Omar by a 5,435-vote majority. He polled 8,013 votes while Zulkefly, who is state PAS head, got 2,578. Barisan won the seat by 2,333 votes in last year’s general election.
