Absolute time out for Muru family
KLANG: Deepavali is the only time of the year that veterinary surgeons Dr P.L. Muru and Dr Dahlia Wee get to spend a few days together with their four children.
The couple run a busy practice in Bukit Tinggi, Klang, leaving them little time for their children. However, come Deepavali and they close the clinic for four or five days.
“Both my wife and I have busy schedules. We leave home in the morning and only return after 7.30pm daily and because of this, we fully utilise the break to spend time with our children,” said Dr Muru, 43.
Extra special: The Muru family in a celebratory mood at their home in Bukit Tinggi yesterday. — DARRAN TAN / The Star He added that their children Jagathis, 12, Tharishinie, 11, Sri Santhiyah, six, and Kugan, four, looked forward to Deepavali every year because of this.
“They know it is the only time of the year they can spend four to five whole days with us,” said Dr Muru, who is from Telok Intan.
He added that Dr Wee, 40, also made Indian cakes and delicacies for the every year as she did not like to buy ready-made goodies.
“She tries very hard and even makes murukku, but although there is improvement every year, it is still not 100 % Indian,” said Muru with a laugh.
Dr Wee said she loved the Deepavali atmosphere, especially the temple visit in the morning followed by a traditional South Indian breakfast of thosai.Dr Wee, who is from Kuching.
This year, the couple will take their children on a short holiday to Phuket, Thailand, during the break.
Dr Muru and Dr Wee, who married in 1996, met while they were veterinary students in Universiti Putra Malaysia.
