Nature lovers make a beeline for Animal Day expo

By AUSTIN CAMOENS

JOHOR BARU: Children and adults alike showed keen interest on why animals and plants need to be protected at the Petrosains Playsmart Johor’s World Animal Day exhibition yesterday.

“Nature is a part of our daily life and has to be protected in order for future generations to enjoy the diverse flora and fauna,” said petrol station attendant Zulia Omar.

The 27-year-old said she was a nature lover and believed that it was everyone’s duty to conserve nature.

Zulia was among more than 400 people who attended the one-day exhibition at the state library yesterday.

A lecturer, who only wanted to be known as Ng, said she heard about the exhibition a few weeks ago when she visited the library, here.

The 38-year-old mother of two said she brought her children to the event to educate and expose them to the wildlife.

“These events offer a great method in teaching our young about animals and the importance of preserving nature,” she said.

As for sales executive Zahru’Laile Eusa, 41, such exhibitions helped teach children from an early age about why animals and plants need to be protected.

“I thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to show my children wildlife up-close,” said the father of three.

Petrosains Playsmart Johor science facilitator Norhana Hamim said the exhibition was organised in conjunction with World Habitat Day.

It is observed every year on the first Monday of October throughout the world.

Norhana said the event was held to explore new ways of imparting the knowledge of science through Playsmart programmes.
