Malaysian student in hospital after house collapses on her

PETALING JAYA: A 23-year-old Malaysian student, identified only as Felicia Francis, was rushed to a hospital in Padang with serious spinal injuries after her house collapsed on her.

Malaysian student leader Murtaza Mohamad Mustaffa at Universitas Andalas confirmed this in an SMS to The Star while waiting for Malaysian embassy representatives at the university’s medical faculty in downtown Padang yesterday afternoon.

Murtaza said several other students had sustained minor injuries when their houses collapsed.

It was reported that about 15 houses where the Malaysian students stayed had collapsed.

Malaysian Students Department director in Indonesia Dr Junaidy Abu Bakar said the injured student was still in hospital.

“We are making arrangements for a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) plane to bring her and the other Malaysian students back home,” he said.

Dr Junaidy, who is here to help coordinate relief efforts, said the other Malaysian students were safe and resting at the Universitas Andalas’ Fakultas Kedokto­ran.
