Trio claim trial to kidnap, wrongful confinement
KUALA LUMPUR: Three men claimed trial to kidnapping a general assistant with intention to secretly and wrongfully confine him.
Hotel waiter Aznol Hisyam Jamaludin, 24, and lorry drivers Misnadi Badarudin, 29, and B. Jeevaratana, 27, were alleged to have abducted R. Chandra Kandan, 45, with the intention to confine him in a house at Jalan Politeknik 24, Teluk Kemang in Port Dickson.
The three were accused of committing the offence at the Puduraya bus station at 12.45am on June 25.
Chandra, who is with the Kedah state police station headquarters, had lodged a complaint over the alleged abduction on June 28.
If convicted, each accused can be jailed up to seven years and fined under Section 365 of the Penal Code.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Yong Ann Nee asked the court to set bail for each of the accused at RM15,000 in one surety while the three applied for lower bail, saying their bailor was present in court and they had to support their families.
Jeevaratana later told magistrate Nazran Mohd Sham that they planned to defend themselves.
When Nazran asked if they were “smart” to handle their case without a counsel, they bowed their heads and remained silent.
Nazran set two days from Jan 5 for trial and granted each accused bail of RM14,000 in one surety. They could not post bail.
