Reports by LEE YUK PENG, ZULKIFLI ABD RAHMAN, LOH FOON FONG and YENG AI CHUN
UMNO has yet to receive any membership application from Datuk Ibrahim Ali (Independent-Pasir Mas) to rejoin the party.
Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party has no problem with Ibrahim rejoining but he would not be given any preferential treatment.
Muhyiddin said if Ibrahim was truly interested, his application would be evaluated as other cases to gauge his sincerity and also to check on his previous records.
“His previous records and his ways, his political ways are quite special.
“However, we will not rush into making a decision,” Muhyiddin told newsmen at the Parliament lobby.
It was reported that Ibrahim was keeping his options open on the possibility of rejoining Umno should the party successfully translate the changes outlined by its leadership.
An independent MP, Ibrahim said he was drawn towards Umno of late following the leadership change in the party and because the party had shown its determination to safeguard the interest of the Malays.
