18 illegal immigrants detained in Sandakan waters
SANDAKAN: The Marine Operations Force detained 18 Filipino immigrants who attempted to sneak into the country in two operations in waters off Sandakan here Friday.
Its Sandakan commanding officer ASP Muhammad Sallam Spawi said the illegal immigrants, aged between 14 and 30, comprised 12 men and six women.
The 12 men, who were in two boats, were detained in waters off Pulau Nunuyan at 12.20am while the women were arrested in an operation at Sungai Batu 3 at 6.15am, he said in a statement here Saturday.
He said the operation was conducted under Op Octopus. -- Bernama
