Now, Nik Aziz wants an EGM

KUALA LUMPUR: PAS should hold a special meeting to decide whether to retain its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and its top leadership, especially those who want to cooperate with Umno, said its spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat.

He said PAS should not allow a situation to prevail whereby its members are split over the issue of whether or not to collaborate with Umno.

“For the sake of tajdid (reform), we should hold an EGM. If the EGM does not want to replace the president, it is all right. We should unite to uphold it (the decision). It is the same with (Datuk) Dr Hassan Ali and (Datuk) Mustafa Ali who want PAS to work with Umno towards a unity government. The matter is raised and later subsides when people are angry over it. What is all this?” he asked in his blog yesterday.

“This chaotic situation should not be allowed to persist. People can accept or reject it. Hence, to make it simple, the matter should be brought to EGM. Let us determine legally, which way to go. See who to retain and who to remove,’’ he said.

Nik Aziz said PAS should get a new mandate again through a meeting which is transparent.

‘‘This time, I strongly feel that there should be changes among the lead players in the PAS central leadership,’’ he said.

Nik Aziz said the EGM would be more of a preparation for the 13th general election.

Nik Aziz said it was about time that PAS made a decision as to whether to take disciplinary action against Selangor executive councillor Dr Hasan.

However, he said it would not be easy as Hasan was seen as part of the pro-Umno group in PAS.

“I think that certain personalities in PAS can change the situation. Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak seems to have the capability to lead the party.

“I was impressed with the way Azizan snubbed PAS Youth vice chief Azman Shapawi in the issue involving sale of liquor beverages a few months ago,” he said adding that PAS in Kedah also seemed to fare better than in Terengganu.

Terengganu PAS youth chief Mohd Nor Hamzah has backed Nik Aziz’s call to hold a special muktamar to weed out detractors from within.
